Job Title: Energy & Carbon Manager
Location: Dronfield/Hybrid working (with UK-wide travel)
Reports to: Head of Operations

Role Purpose:
The Energy & Carbon Manager is responsible for leading the delivery, quality and development of the organisation’s energy and carbon consultancy services. The role provides senior technical leadership across Net Zero strategy, carbon accounting and decarbonisation programmes, while contributing to service growth, commercial development and team capability.
The post-holder will act as a senior advisor to clients and internal stakeholders, ensuring services remain technically robust, commercially viable and aligned with evolving UK energy and carbon policy.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Technical Leadership & Consultancy Delivery
- Lead and oversee delivery of energy and carbon consultancy services, including EPC, DEC, ESOS, site energy audits, decarbonisation strategies and Net Zero roadmaps.
- Build and manage a robust sales pipeline aligned with the company’s growth targets
- Act as senior technical authority on complex or high-profile client engagements.
- Provide quality assurance and technical review of outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with standards and internal best practice.
- Maintain high professional standards across all technical deliverables and client reporting.
2. Carbon Strategy, Decarbonisation & Net Zero
- Lead development and delivery of Carbon Reduction Strategies and Net Zero roadmaps across diverse client portfolios.
- Oversee baseline carbon footprinting, including Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions.
- Appraise and prioritise decarbonisation measures across energy efficiency, low-carbon heat, renewables, electrification and operational change.
- Support clients in setting evidence-based carbon targets and tracking progress against KPIs.
3. Carbon Accounting, GHG Inventories & Reporting
- Lead and assure GHG inventories in line with the GHG Protocol and relevant standards (e.g. ISO 14064).
- Provide technical oversight of statutory and voluntary reporting, including SECR, ESG reporting and TCFD-aligned inputs where applicable.
- Ensure robust data governance, auditability and processes for ongoing data management.
- Support continuous improvement in data quality, reporting methodologies and client reporting frameworks.
4. Carbon Governance, Policy & Compliance
- Provide expert interpretation of UK and relevant international energy and carbon legislation and standards.
- Monitor and assess emerging policy, regulatory change and market mechanisms relevant to carbon management and Net Zero delivery.
- Translate regulatory change into practical client guidance and internal service improvements.
- Contribute to internal policy guidance, technical notes and thought leadership.
5. Service Development & Market Growth
- Contribute to the development and refinement of carbon and Net Zero service offerings.
- Identify opportunities for service innovation, including Scope 3 support, portfolio-level Net Zero planning and digital reporting solutions.
- Support bids, tenders and proposals with senior technical input.
- Provide commercial insight into service design, pricing structures and scope definition.
6. Client Leadership & Change Enablement
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders on carbon strategy, transition planning and delivery pathways.
- Lead client workshops, briefings and strategic presentations.
- Support client organisations with governance frameworks, capability development and change management linked to carbon reduction.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
7. Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Provide line management, mentoring and technical guidance to Energy Consultants and junior team members.
- Support onboarding, training, professional development and progression planning.
- Contribute to workload planning, resourcing and performance management.
- Promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture and continuous improvement mindset.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in energy consultancy, sustainability, carbon management or related field.
- Strong working knowledge of UK energy and carbon legislation and compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrable experience delivering carbon footprinting, GHG reporting and decarbonisation strategies.
- Strong understanding of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and carbon data management.
- Experience of ISO 14064-1 & SBTi Carbon reporting frameworks
- Experience contributing to or leading Net Zero programmes.
- At least 2+ years energy auditing experience
- Membership of EI, CIBSE, or IEMA
- Experience managing, mentoring or supporting the development of junior staff.
- Strong written communication, technical reporting and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Commercial awareness, including experience supporting proposals or service development.
- Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
Desirable
- ESOS Lead Assessor
- Experience contributing to digital tools, platforms or data systems for carbon reporting

The organisation will support relevant professional development and fund appropriate accreditations aligned to the role and service needs (e.g. ESOS, SECR, GHG Protocol training).

Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and generate new business opportunities through outbound calls, networking, events, and referrals
- Build and manage a robust sales pipeline aligned with the company’s growth targets
- Establish and develop relationships with senior decision-makers and key stakeholders
- Deliver proposals and presentations tailored to client challenges and objectives
- Negotiate and close deals that support both client success and company goals
- Collaborate with marketing to support lead generation and align sales messaging
- Track sales activity and pipeline in the CRM system, ensuring data accuracy and visibility.
- Stay informed on market trends and customer feedback to shape future service offerings
- Represent the company at industry events to enhance visibility and credibility
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure seamless client onboarding and delivery
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a full-cycle B2B sales or business development role, ideally within the energy industry and preferably an energy consultant.
- Proven success selling energy services such as procurement, bill validation, compliance, or efficiency solutions
- Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Highly motivated and target-driven, with the ability to work independently
- Skilled in creating high-impact proposals and strategic sales plans
- Proficient in CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Commercially aware, analytical, and solutions-oriented
- Full UK driving licence
