The Melanoma Focus Charity
We support the Melanoma Focus Charity in memory of two members of the ECA family.
George Mellor
Without George, there would be no ECA. Before setting up the business with Pat in 1986, he’d already experienced a life in the airforce, set a world speed record, and introduced microwave ovens to the UK.
A keen footballer, and subsequent referee, he passed his love for Sheffield Wednesday onto his son and grandson.
George passed away suddenly in 1994, leaving Pat and his son Stephen to carry on the family business in ECA.
Lisa Griffiths
A keen sailor and mother in her personal life, Lisa Griffiths joined as Company Secretary in 2005, becoming Finance Director in May 2008. She ran the company’s finances with a fist of steel and was always a go-to grounded sound board for her fellow directors, and later became Stephen’s partner.
In April 2013, Lisa was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma and she passed away in September the same year.
Leap and the Net Will Appear
Our company charity campaign, Leap and the Net Will Appear, is titled after a card Lisa gave to Stephen. It embodies the belief both Lisa and George demonstrated in areas of their lives with their unique ambitions, courage, strong ethics, and dedication to a life of love.
This fundraising campaign supports Melanoma Focus, our chosen charity. Melanoma Focus offer support to patients and their families as well as funding melanoma cancer research. Their information resources and helpline are vital for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
