Many buildings or sites are incorrectly classified by Distribution Network Operators (DNO’s). Internal and third party energy bill validation processes will check that the Distribution Use of System (DUoS) costs invoiced by the supplier are correct, but they fail to check if the fees charged by the DNO to the supplier are correct. Your business could be due to compensation if the fees charged are incorrect.
DUoS fees are incurred by all businesses and relate to the cost of using and maintaining the infrastructure that transports electricity from the Transmission Network to the end users’ sites.
This infrastructure is owned and operated by regional DNO’s.
Their charges are set and governed by the industry regulator and vary according to the physical set up of the supply, how much power is used, and the location of the site.
With 14 main DNO’s, several independent DNO’s, and a wide range of factors used to calculate DUoS, errors can easily occur.
